DDR3 vs DDR4

Are there 240 pin DDR4 ram sticks? Are they compatible with DDR3 motherboards? If DDR4 and DDR3 both have the same number of pin, they should be compatible, right?

There are no 240 pin DDR4 RAM Sticks. They are not backwards compatible.

Nope. DDR4 is 288 pin. DDR2 is 240 pin but isn't compatible due to new technologies and it not being backwards compatible so they moved a notch so you can't insert DDR3 into DDR2 board.

No they are not compatible.

• Different pin count (288 vs 240)
• Different DRAM slot notch location
• Different voltage standard
• etc.
