Hey! Im new to the forums, so forgive me if im being a noob.

im upgrading my PC this christmas, and im on a budget. Im looking to upgrade the processor, graphics card, and power supply. (maybe not all at once)

i currently have a 650 ti, and an i3-3220, and its not enough for my needs.

I was wondering if an R9 280x and an FX-8350 would be enough to run the newest games on ultra settings at 1080p 60fps, and if so what wattage power supply will i need?

And is this overkill? could i save some money? Your advice is appreciated, and i would like to know what you guys would reccomend.

thanks, Jamie.

The 280x will be fine for what you want to do for now... but as games get more advanced the card wont do as well. If you look at Slicks Assassins Creed testing an overclocked 280x can only do 32fps@ultra so eventually the card wont do as well. You could go down to 8320 or fx-6300 for a cpu you wont see a huge difference. A 600w psu is what I would recommend, maybe a 550w if you had a different cpu.

Spoiler

Is it just me or is Grammar slowly becoming extinct on LTT?

32 fps? man thats brutal. I heard AC4 is really unoptimized, is that the case here or is the card really that limited?

I don't think drivers have been updated to help and its poorly optimized. The card is just rebranded 7970 so I believe its just the game and not so much the card as it the 280x can do about 57fps in bf4. If you wanted to be over the 60fps mark and stay above it a 290 maybe the card to get. But for now a 280x will be fine for around 60fps gaming.

It's probably a bit overkill for an upgrade.

What kind of games are you planning to play? Budget? What are you current specs?
