AMD CPU/APU question

Go to solution Solved by Glenwing,

FX goes on AM3+, higher performance and no integrated graphics.

A-series goes on FM2+, F is for fusion which is their project for integrating CPU and GPU together.

"+" sockets are backwards compatible with older CPUs from the "non +" socket (i.e AM3+ socket can take the older AM3 CPUs too, that's why it's "+" and not AM4, which would break compatibility)

I'm a little confused by the cpu/apu part numbers and the sockets

Intel's stuff is easier:

Pentium, Celeron is the low end stuff (LGA 1150)

i3, i5, i7 is the main steam (LGA 1150)

i7 extreme, xeon for the high end stuff nobody can afford (LGA 2011)

some somebody explain the names/sockets for the AMD parts and what market segment they fit into? (FX, AM3+, AM2, Athlon II, Athlon, FM2, etc...)
