Cooling an m.2 drive

Want to get the 950 or 960 evo from Samsung but reviews say that they thermal throttle fast. I will be getting the taichi x370 mobo. How do i keep the m.2 temps down?

Add heatsinks + airflow.

 

But whatever you do, don't add a cover onto it. That'll only make it worse.

950 did have problem under prolonged load, I think the 960 is mostly fine though.

They fixed the issue and the issue itself was present only on the 950 PRO.

You make one by buying tiny copper heatsinks from Ebay and using thermal pads to stick them to the M.2.

 

BUT! You don't have to since the 960 has a rather sizable strip of copper in the sticker as a heatsink.

960 EVO or PRO would be better than the 950 PRO.

You can buy pcie adapter that include a heatsink cover on them.

 

Alternatively, you can get an expansion slot fan that will blow air straight on the ssd itself.

You can take those fans off and put your own ones onto it.
