Ahoy, I just built my first "budget rig". Currently for a mobo, I am using the ASUS M5A97, CPU, AMD FX-6300 Black Edition, 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM, and I have 2 TOTALLY exact R5 230 Core Edition's, Basically I'm wondering if my CPU would bottleneck? Thanks in advance.

putting two extremely low-end GPU's in CF, even if it works, will not net you the results you would expect.

It can even negatively impact performance.

Why are you asking this question after you've built it?

return them if you can, thats a horrible value. You can a much faster gpu for less. I just bought a r9 270 for 40 usd used, and for 120 total you can get cards like a 1050 or a rx 460.

You can crossfire them low end gpus don't support CF

Oh no, you didn't just spend money on them, but got ripped off bad as well.

I'm not sure whether 2 R5 230s are faster than 1 R7 240, but the other two cards mentioned are clearly faster than them

I was under the assumption I needed a "Crossfire Bridge" to use it, however when I installed the 2nd gpu into the pci-e, on crimson, it stated I had 1 R5 {primary) and the 2nd was on standby.

you can run multiple gpus on the same computer fine which is what you're currently doing but in order cross fire you need a crossfire bridge and crossfire connectors on the cards for the bridge to connect to

those gold connectors at the top of thiws card are cross fire connector

No no, what ended up happening is i ran into some complications with the connector. I have the bridge, but dont see anywhere to mount it on the R5 230 Core. Strangely enough, Radeon recognizes that a second card is installed, and shows it a secondary.

You actually don't need a bridge for Xfire anymore with newer cards. These specific cards should support Xfire in some way and since they don't allow it through a bridge, they likely will do it through the motherboard.

i5 6600k @ 4.4ghz on Hyper 212 Evo

Powercolor RX 480 8Gb Red Devil @1330Mhz

Bottom line:  Don't be a spaz or an 800lb gorilla when installing your expensive CPU, and you won't have any problems. --Phate.exe

you can have multiple gpus in a computer withought using cross fire you just use them as extra inputs its not strange

aggh it's true it's just because they're so terrible they don't need the bridge since so little data is being transferred
