laptop cpu

this one asshole of a friend of mine is trying to tell me laptop cpus can be changed, his one example is from a laptop from 2012 that he doesnt know the model of and no longer has it

is he correct??

If the CPU isn't soldered to the motherboard, it can generally be changed with another one that is supported by the chipset/socket.

I've done that on my old Asus K50IJ that came with a T3100, switching it for a T4400 (iirc)

mate old laptop processors can be swapped but not all of them any laptop made in the last few years with have their cpu soldered to the motherboard

I'd say it's about 50/50 if they can be changed or not. generally nobody cares that much since it's most of the time not worth the trouble.

but in general: yes, some can be changed.

its not about year, its about cpu if its soldered or not...

The last mobile CPU that can be changed are 4th gen i7 MQ chips. They are launched at Q2 2013, so your friends statement might be true.
