New surface pro?

Ok, so I am looking at laptops/tablets that are crazy portable with decent power. The surface pro (5) has got my attention. I want to do light 1080p video editing and super light gaming(Minecraft @ native res). The camera really doesn't matter, just skype calling really. Battery life is also important, because I would travel with this Tablet. I would also use this as a daily driver, replacing my current driver, a Late 2016 Razer Blade Stealth, and probably my iPad air 2. I am quite clumsy and have broken 2 iPads and put a huge dent in the bottom left corner of my Blade stealth, so durability is a decent concern.

I would get a type cover and Arc Mouse with it.

I am looking at the i7, 16GB Ram, 512GB SSD model.

I would love to hear your thoughts. =D

it would work well, Surface devices had good build quality long as you take care of it.

not sure if new Ipads sucks or you did something more than just dropping it, i still remember my friend dropping his Ipad 1st gen down a flight of stairs with no scratches on it, also no such thing as surface pro 5.

you really need to be careful with your electronic devices.

Before buying one I would recommend going to Best Buy and looking at that along with other super portable laptops like the hp spectre or the dell xps just for comparison and make ur decision after that, just to make sure that u like the feel of a keyboard cover as opposed to a laptop keyboard

much as i love that, remember it's still a prototype, that device has ways to go before it hits the consumer market.

tbh you might be better served with a base MacBook Pro if you want something sleek, powerful, and with good battery life.

Check it out: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MPXQ2LL/A&step=config#

Do not get the 4GB Surface Pro, that thing is a joke.

So that means once you get a version of the Surface Pro with 8GB of RAM it now costs as much as a MacBook Pro and you still dont have a keyboard which is necessary in order for the device to be pleasant to use (according to reviewers) and is very expensive to get. (the keyboard is like $160!)

And the thing still doesn't come with any office applications or a good video/music (iMovie and Garageband) editor and it runs Windows 10, take that how you will.

the new 13.3 inch razer blade stealth looks fantastic, imo. Bezels are much smaller, and the trackpad is FINALLY using windows precision drivers (no more Synaptic disappointment).

however, it's quite expensive, and at that price point, an XPS 15 makes more sense, with a dGPU and wonderful build quality.

Snorlax: i7 5820k @4.5ghz, Asus X99 Pro, 32gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Samsung 850 evo 500gb, Asus GTX 1080 ROG Strix, Corsair RM850x, NZXT H440, Hue+

Smallsnor: Huawei Matebook X

Canon AE-1 w/ 50mm f/1.8 lens

Pentax KM w/ 55mm f/1.8 SMC lens

Zenit-E w/ 58mm f/2 Helios lens

Panasonic G7 with 14-42mm f/3.5 lens

Polaroid Spectra System

would certainly be more powerful and have a better value than the Surface or the MacBook Pro, but is not nearly as portable.

We also dont need a dGPU here.

true

the 12 inch macbook is unpopular for obvious reasons, but it fulfills all of the criteria

Well that is Apple most powerful computer.

It really is a day to day web machine though. However it can render 4K video with FinalCut so it does have some kick to it.

It can be a potent computer with this setup:

  • 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
  • 8GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 512GB SSD storage
  • Intel HD Graphics 615

But it costs too much at $1,600 USD. But it would fulfil OPs needs quite well.

I dont know enough about the Core M3 model to recommend it since that model has decent specs as well:

  • 1.2GHz dual-core Intel Core m3 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.0GHz
  • 8GB 1866MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD storage1
  • Intel HD Graphics 615

and costs the same as the other products we have mentioned form MS or Apple.

That being said you could just get the base MacBook Pro and just blow it away xD
