I'm planning a custom loop (gpu + cpu) based off of a swiftech aio. I can get a good deal on a whole loop (with 980ti included) so my question is, is it worth it? I'm mainly worried about it leaking and destroying something like a gpu. (Although if you have a backplate and it's just a small leak if you catch it before it drips off the gpu it's fine right?) So how often does it happen? I'm going soft tubing so how hard would the maintenance be? And it's going used a bad idea? I can post the loop parts if you want.

In my experience it's pretty hard to screw up - Get a high quality block, some fittings and a drain valve and possibly a Quick Disconnect Valve for easy maintenance. What block do you plan on purchasing?

Swiftech H220-X
EKWB GTX 980 Ti Block
Black Ice Nemesis 280mm Radiator
2x Noctua NF-A14 Industrial PPC Fans
Monsoon Gold Plated Compression Fittings
Clear Primochill Soft Tubing
Distilled water with Mayhems Yellow Die
** Loop will be fully disassembled and drained. Coolant will need to be purchased by the buyer, but is fairly cheap. More tubing may be needed depending on the condition of the current tubing, I will let you know if that is the case

Those are the parts that come with it. Remember I'm buying it used so if that's an issue please tell me. It also comes with a 980ti.

Order some Mayhems Blitz Part 1 and Part 2 to flush the system out.

Is that needed? I'm trying to keep it as cheap as possible and too my understanding I thought I could just buy the loop, install it correctly, fill it with some distilled water, and call it a day with (hopefully) no leaks

I generally like to clean things out, just to make sure there isn't any buildup.

It's like $20 or $30 if I remember right for both parts.

Agreed. Rather safe than sorry. The last thing you want in your loop is gunk floating around.

Is there any diy way to clean out the loop?

You can clean out the blocks/rads with hot water and rinse it out with distilled water before pouring in your fluid, but i still recommend flushing out the loop with Mayhems Blitz, especially since the parts are used.

Alright I'll think about it. I'll see if anyone has a diy mixture as well. And my fluid would be distilled water so would I put in hot water, flush it out with distilled and just keep it there? I've seen people say vinegar and water is good and others say it's bad so I'll stay away from that

What are the chances of a leak and do they increase with used parts?

Leaks are almost always related to user error such as not tightening the fittings properly or something along those lines.

I would say you've got less chance for leaks with used since they will either happen right away from faulty manufacturing or not at all.

Alright I just wanted to make sure and that is a good point you make.

As said you will be fine and it sounds like a good selection, but you will want to get a biocide for the loop as the dyes are just as is a dye without any other additive, a premixed fluid or such is recommended.

In terms of cleaning you can clean used rads and such with a vingear solution and thoroughly flush it out afterwards to ensure nothing is left inside.

In my experience leaks happen right when filling so you shouldn't have anything powered on anyway. If it leaks then you simple clean up, let dry for a couple days, and continue. I let stuff run for 12-24 hours after filling to make 100% sure but after that you're usually in the clear. Put paper towels down over everything as well so you're less likely to get it on actual parts :)

I would recommend at least Mayhems Blitz Part 2 if you can fit that into the budget, part 1 is for rads only and a good flush or two with part 2 on used parts should be fine. That or a water/vinegar solution if you absolutely can't get the Blitz.

So I'm a little bit confused about what to fill the loop with. Distilled water only? Mix? Or fancy stuff?

You must use a biocide within the loop if you only used distilled water a nd a dye like you are planning, a premixed solution is simple as it comes already colored and ready to go with all the included additives.

I was actually planning on just distilled water with no dye for now, it comes with yellow dye but the color wouldn't Match my build at all.  And I'll look into premade solutions later down the line if a good temporary solution is pure distilled water with nothing added.

You need something added than just pure distilled water, in most cases your loop will get growth with nothing but distilled water. A biocide such as PT nuke or a silver kill coil is needed for the loop, if you have any nickel in the loop however silver kill coils should not be used as they act as a borderline dissimilar metal in a loop environment. In those situations clear PT nuke must be used (Benzalkonium chloride base).

Thanks for the help! So I will need to make another purchase beside the am4 bracket rip
