i plan on building this summer and using r5, i'm just curious why its taking so long for r3. like thread ripper which was announced at E3 is set to release in Q3, and r3 was announced a few months ago

Because AMD doesn't manufacture Ryzen 3, they manufacture Ryzen 7 and the baked chips that have defective cores are sold as Ryzen 5, AMD is waiting to have enough chips that are enough defective to start selling them as Ryzen 3.

 

Either ways Ryzen 3 is not a good pick given how cheap Ryzen 5 already is, not even for office PC usage since it does not feature an iGPU you're better off with a G4560 if you're building an office computer.
