VR Gaming

Splodge1231

Hi,

I am looking to buy an oculus rift and touch (Take your squabbling somewhere else) and am only looking to play light games - Rec Room, Job Simulator, not anything like robo recall. What is the lowest graphics card I would need. Also I don't get motion sick.

Thanks

P.s I have a 750ti FTW

GTX970 should be fine (and cheapest option if you buy a secondhand one).

But I would recommend a GTX1060 6GB if you can pay a little more for what you need.

CPU Intel i7 8700K @5Ghz Motherboard ROG Maximus Hero 10 RAM Corsair Vengeance 32GB 3600MHz

GPU MSI Gaming X 1080ti Case Thermaltake Core P3  Storage SSD Boot plus Samsung 960 Evo M.2 nvme storage

PSU Corsair RM750W Gold Display Asus ROG Strix XG32VQ 144Hz 1440p Cooling Corsair H100i V2

Keyboard Roccat Ryos MK FX Mouse Roccat Kone Aimo Audio MK3 Fostex T50RP + Schiit Magni 3 AMP and Modi 2 DAC

So nothing cheaper. And the 970 is worse than the 1060?

Ideally a 480/1060, but the minimum specs to run an Oculus rift is a 1050ti.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

From their own site they list the following as minimum requirements:

NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti/AMD Radeon RX 470 or greater

NVIDIA GTX 960/AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater

Personally I'd aim to go above absolute minimum.

Yes, or a 960. You will need a 480 or 1060 for the HTC vive though (Oculus uses Asynchronous Spacewarp to fill in the gaps and lower minimum specs).

Edit: Forgot to ask about your CPU?

1060 is slightly better/faster (about 10% average) at pretty much everything than a 970, and considerably better re VRAM at 6GB vs 4GB (3.5 usable) on the 970.

There may be cheaper/better AMD alternatives but i have no experience of them.

1060 but if you can stretch, a 1070 will be worth it. Don't try to go for minimum requirements, you'll just end up regretting it when new games release that you can't run. You need high FPS for VR

That's an F in the profile pic

VR induced nausea is very different from motion sickness. Regular motion sickness is caused by motion, VR sickness is not. I don't get motion sick either but VR has thrown a curve ball at me multiple times before. Just a heads up :D
