So I'm building a new pc, I have a new 500gb ssd that im going to put my os on to and then i want to get 2 hdd's to make into a raid.

I have no idea about raid, i just want my files to be ultra safe in the event of failure and this is the best solution?

I'm not sure which drives are best for this WD Red?

I'm not sure how to set it up either and does my motherboard choice affect being able to make a raid or not?

Sorry I'm so noob on this :c

Ty for your help!

No.

The best solution is to make backups, not raid.

Oh... okay. I dont really want to deal with any external drives though, is there a way for a internal hdd backup?

Well, you don't need a external drive to make a backup. You can just backup to a internal drive.

I'd also say to not use RAID if you want a proper backup. RAID's mostly for helping you stay running after building the array.

There's quite a few third party softwares for this, like fbackup. You can also flat out clone drives using Macrium Reflect Free. I think Acronis is also a popular option. Windows even has a built in tool for backups as well.

However, do pay attention to what format the file backup software back ups with. Some use proprietary formats (so you're stuck with that software if you want to unlock it), some use zip (may take forever to compress depending on the size of the files), and some just copy the files as is (what is preferred).
