Ram at different speeds

but would that effect things like payday 2?

Anything that uses the CPU heavily will use higher bandwidth RAM. I listed some games that use the CPU heavily. If you're rendering, high speed RAM is very helpful.

Don't expect HuniePop Battlefield 1 to get an extra 40Hz with 3000MHz RAM, but do expect better minimums since latency and calculations can be performed faster.

So uh I couldn't find anything on google (im sure theres something) about clocking my ram to the right speeds.  For a long time I have had my ram run at 1600 mhz ddr3 for 4x2 and 2x2, and alot during games after playing for 30 minutes or so I would lose fps gradually and my cpu, gtx 1070, and my hdd are running not even at full speed on payday 2 and im getting 34 fps after 30 minutes.  Its not the cpu or the graphics card because the exact same things happen on things like Rise of the Tomb Raider.  I get like 60 fps perfect until 30 minutes and it start to gradually go down.  Whats this have to do with anything?  I think its my ram because I had ruled out any other factors by moving the game on an ssd and what not.    I started diagnosing the ram and the 2x2 ram sticks clocks are 1333 mhz and my other 4x2 sticks are 1600 mhz.  Is there anyway you can run 2 different clock speeds on ram?  I don't think so but it doesn't hurt to ask

MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition

Intel Core i5 4590

NVIDIA Gtx 1070

Corsair 550 something psu lol

RAM speeds have no impact on your FPS so that is not it. What could be the case is that you running out of it, Maybe you've got a little to many chrome tabs open ;) .

The motherboard will set speeds to be the same. For them to be different is unlikely even if the advertised speeds are different, and the manufacturers are different. Have you monitored temperatures during gameplay?

This is demonstrably false.

yes I have monitored temps, nothing reaches above 60C.  I rebooted and clocked down to 1333 mhz and task manager says its still 1600?

You are correct.  however, the difference is at best 5%, and thats comparing the slowest speed vs highest speed of a given DDR revision (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.).  not really anything significant in most cases.

Check using CPU-Z, not Task Manager. You'll find memory speeds in the Memory tab for CPU-Z.

I wasn't addressing the amount. Just stating it's false.

Does it? Isn't it like an tiny amount?!

Edit: I was trying to not make it complicated. I know it does make a difference but a so minuscule amount that it is not worth mentioning. Ryzen being a expection from this.

It depends on the game.

Depends on the game and CPU platform used, Ryzen benefits alot from faster ram.

Depends on the game. BF1 has been seen to get quite a large gain (around 10-12%) and Witcher 3 having better minimums.

RAM speed has always been a good thing to go for if your hardware handles it.
