Cable box or TV issue

So with my parents Sony smart TV sometimes to get the cable box to display anything the cable box has to be rebooted. It seems to do this at random and once the cable box is unplugged and reboots it displays just fine. We've already swapped boxes and the problem still happens. I WOULD say it's the box because once it's reset everything is good, however like I said 2 different boxes have had this issue. Any ideas?

you might just have bad luck with cable boxes, get something like a Xbox one for a good cable box.

We have a Blu Ray player and use Netflix which is built into the TV. Neither of those have had issues

It's probably the cable box. I've seen stuff like this happen with that sort of equipment, and sadly there isn't too much you can do unless you get lucky and it fixes itself.

Has the company checked the cabling in the wall or from the lines? Also, you mentioned a Blu-ray player, is it on top of the box?

Bottom of the box. I should also mention when we swapped boxes, the one that was giving my parents trouble the first time wasn't having any issues on their tv in their bedroom. I still don't think it's the TV though

How is the TV hooked up to the box?

Box goes HDMI to surround sound receiver surround receiver HDMI to tv

Have you tried it without the receiver? Was the receiver present with both boxes?

Yeah , I moved back in about 3 months before this started happening but as far as I know nothing changed

Could be a signal issue. We used to have channels drop out at random at times. Our neighbor who was on the same drop as us had to get a similar issue fixed. They replaced the drop from what my mom said. Now signals are much better. 

 

Could also just be shit boxes. We have had at least 4 Comcast boxes go bad in a year before.

Is the Cable Box made by Motorola or Arris? If so, it's 100% the firmware on the box being dumb about detecting that the TV is powered on.
