MSI 1080 Aero vs Strix 1070

lewosososos

The Strix 1070 is £413 and the Aero 1080 is £419 after cashback. Would the 1080 be a better choice even when if it thermal throttles.

Basically I prefer open air coolers but if the 1080 would still perform better I will get it.

Thanks and sorry for how poorly written this is

It should not thermal throttle. It gets hot, but it shouldn't/ Yes, extra performance is worth it over temperature and noise.

Get the 1080, you can always throw an aio on it later if the temps are terrible.  Nzxt g10/g12 + cheap aio = 50-70 bucks and it might even be cooler than the strix.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

If you use a fully sealed case that's not that close to your ears, like next to your legs beneath the desk, then even the blower style cooler on the MSI card is fine. Just manually set a more aggressive fan curve if it gets too hot and doesn't boost as much.
