"Vertically" installed hard drive performance

Can performance of hard drives be affected when it is installed "vertically", say something like the Fractal Node 304, or the Cubitek one where Linus did a GTX small form factor build.

I'm just not accustomed seeing hard drives installed that way so I thought I'd ask.

That's that I said, placing it vertical gives it less air resistance and makes it go faster.
