Posted June 8, 2017 i9 is just a really wierd launch to compete with ryzen 7 and threadripper, unless intel keeps their prices reasonable i dont think anyone will be that incited with i9 Omega- I5 6600k | Gigabyte GTX 1060 | Cougar Panzer | DDR4 16GB 3000MHz | MSI Z170 Gaming M5 EVGA 650 GQ | AOC 60Hz Freesync Panels x2 | AOC 144hz Freesync Panel x1 Epsilon- I7 2700k | Asus GTX 970 | Corsair 780t | DDR3 8GB 1600MHz | EVGA Z68 FTW Mobo Corsair 750W G2 | Acer R240HY x2 Upsilon- i7 5500u | 6GB DDR3 | 720p 60Hz panel
 Posted June 8, 2017 Eh, i9 seems really rushed, like a quick reaction to the threadripper release

Posted June 8, 2017 @Cinnabar Sonar im not as much interested in the high core count i9s as i am the 6 and 8 core i9s and how the prices compare to Ryzen 7 Omega- I5 6600k | Gigabyte GTX 1060 | Cougar Panzer | DDR4 16GB 3000MHz | MSI Z170 Gaming M5 EVGA 650 GQ | AOC 60Hz Freesync Panels x2 | AOC 144hz Freesync Panel x1 Epsilon- I7 2700k | Asus GTX 970 | Corsair 780t | DDR3 8GB 1600MHz | EVGA Z68 FTW Mobo Corsair 750W G2 | Acer R240HY x2 Upsilon- i7 5500u | 6GB DDR3 | 720p 60Hz panel
 Posted June 8, 2017 I am not in the market for either (needs/budget), but if I were, and while I don't know much about it, threadripper looks more appealing. I found the intel i9 unnecessarily confusing and it would probably cost quite a bit more for a given performance level.
 Posted June 8, 2017 I think Intel needs to be a lot more price competitive. Though it's all hearsay since we don't really know any prices. The reason Threadripper is compelling is that I might actually be able to afford it. On the Intel side I'd still be looking at ebaying really old servers to get that kind of thread count. However, the 1976x looks quite appealing, 4 more cores, for probably not that much loss in single threaded performance.
