Looking for recommendations for laptop in college

I'm moving off to college soon in Canadia and I need a new laptop for classes. I will be bringing my desktop which I built for gaming for my dorm but since I can't take it too class I am in need for a nice portable laptop that can last a while. I have looked at chrome books but there are a lot of options in that category and theirs the downside of not having many (games cough*) but I digress. I will probably end up doing most of my work back in the dorm on my desktop since google docs and drive is all connected. I need a nice cheaper laptop to take notes, do a little work, surf the web and maybe play a few smaller games for when i'm bored. Thanks for the help guys!

ThinkPad should be good, you can pick up an older thinkpad with 2nd or 3rd gen i7 for around 200 to 400$.

Thanks for the recommendation man, I thought about gaming laptops but I remember hearing it wouldn't be that good. I do love my games and being able to play a few on the go would be nice. I should be able to get some work done too.

That's what I was thinking even though it seems nice I know they don't last long with battery life and they are bulky.. It really is a tough choice that's why the chrome books are pretty appealing.

There is the whole price/performance thing but that's not really the biggest set back of them. If you ever own a desktop gaming laptops will always be sup par in everyway. They can game but for the price just get a desktop and ultrabook

I already own a nice gaming desktop where I do most of my work anyways... To be honest playing games would be nice but I would need to focus on the material in class anyways.. Any other recommendations?

not all are bulky, razer blade comes to mind only the desktop target ones, also any laptop can drink power depending on their use case.....

Thankfully the 1050 Ti is pretty low power so it allows for thin laptops with not-crap battery life and good gaming. The inspiron is 1" thick which isn't terrible but isn't slim. As for battery life you'll have to look at a review.

 

Honestly the 1050 inspiron should do the trick too.
