Hello All,

I'm replacing my Mobo but that means replacing my CPU, RAM, and Getting a New OS. I've been researching but there are problems with everything I want for my criteria. I mainly use my PC for gaming so a quad core is a good bet. However, Intel's i5 seems too pricey in its last two generations. As for Ryzen I don't know enough about the differences about the 1400 and 1500X but they seem to have a good price, however I don't know much about AMD boards (is it just like Intel with the X and B in front just meaning OC or not, if so which should I go with) to know what to get. I also don't know if my CPU fan would work for AM4 (I have a CM V8 or something like that).

For the Motherboard, I'd like to go ASUS but that isn't set in stone.

As for RAM, I don't know what speed to go with and when I looked at differences so many prices didn't seem to make sense for what I would be getting. And for SSD I really don't have a preferance.

Anyway, could someone help me out with this and recommend what I should do.

Thanks.

Go for a ryzen 1400. The x variants aren't really worth it.  You can overclock either way. Get a b350 board doesn't matter which one. Don't buy a motherboard based off brand just based on the features you want.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

You should get a Ryzen 5 1600 with an ASUS B350 motherboard and 3000MHz RAM(preferably with Samsung B-dies). The 1600 is definitely worth the $30 more than the 1500X ;)

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

Mice: Logitech G Pro X Superlight (main), Logitech G Pro Wireless, Razer Viper Ultimate, Zowie S1 Divina Blue, Zowie FK1-B Divina Blue, Logitech G Pro (3366 sensor), Glorious Model O, Razer Viper Mini, Logitech G305, Logitech G502, Logitech G402

The X and B series chipsets on AMD'S site can OC yea, I would choose a board with an X series chipset, you get more PCIe lanes and USB port support. The 1500x is clocked a bit higher than the 1400.

also could you be a little more specific on your cooler? :) most manufactures include an AM4 bracked.

850 Evo is good for an ssd. I would reccommend getting something 256GB and over. You can get windows cheap on kinguin or g2a.

budget? location? for what are you using for?

I'd like to not spend more than 500 but that is partially negotiable, South Western U.S. ,I'd like to use it for gaming but I need it to do general work as well like interface via a wired/wireless network with other PCs. Thanks for the quick reply!

That is strange its LGA 1151 compatible it should be AM4 compatible or is it for a different reason?

i think that they havent designed a bracked for am4 support, try searching to make sure that there is not

Is either of them reputable and reliable?

I would get buyers protection (the shield option at checkout) because some of the keys they get from the sellers aren't always on the up and up. If windows doesn't activate with it you can get another with the shield.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bxHKVY. It probably uses an LGA backplate. The am4 backplate is different and is probably the reason pcpartpicker marks it as not compatible.

I'm just wary because pc part picker said the same thing about my case but it fits fine

Case clearance is harder to measure I guess. I am 100% sure it won't work unless you can get the proper upgrade kit.
