GameDev PC

Hey everyone, I am in desperate need of a upgrade to my current PC as it can no longer run anything smoothly except for LoL and has a weird tendency to freeze my mouse and creating loud, scary, distorted sounds through my headphones despite replacing the crappy power supply and defective graphics card. I am also an aspiring game developer who wants to start learning how to create games in Unity and Unreal. This means that I need a PC that can handle the development of 3D and VR games. But before considering on planning my new PC build, I want to ask you if I should wait for Frontier/RX Vega or build a PC now and use my current Radeon R9 270 until it is released.

Since gaming has also been part of my lifestyle for as long as I can remember, I would also like to game in 1080p 144hz. I am a huge MMO fan so I would like to play Black Desert, Rocket League, Guild Wars 2, CS:GO and other games like Andromeda, Skyrim, Divinity: Original Sin on high settings with ease. Video editing and streaming may be a possibility, but not a requirement for this build.

I am scared to reuse any parts from my current PC as it has such weird problems, but I would also like to save money so the current components I have are:

I only plan on using 1 monitor for now which I also need. and I would like to keep my budget under $2000. Any Ideas?

Could be better by upgrading, but it looks good with those parts.

If you can sell the FX/mobo/RAM, I'd buy Ryzen's 6C variants with some 3000MHz RAM on 2x8GB sticks or 4x8GB sticks.

I would go for cpu with high clockcount, to run VMs for testing purposes (a buddy of mine uses VMs to simulate different machines to test system requirements and optimize his games). A strong Gpu is also important and potential SLI usage in the future might also be worth considering. This build is focused on silence, and is by no means cheap, due to the usage of rather "premium" components. SInce Game development is not only lengthy but also taxing, having hardware that is capable of running over many hours without thermal issues and high power efficiency is also a point to put emphasis on. I added a SSD for your OS, which you can couple with your HDD for everything else.A larger HDD might be somehting worth considering for your next upgrade though.

There's no HDD and a 240GB isn't a good choice for development from a storage standpoint.

Your current PSU isn't great, but you can re-use it, for now at least. Replace it with something better if you want to though.

No need for an 1800x, it's overpriced anyway. You could even save $50 and get an R7 1700 instead of the 1700x if you wanted, but the 1700x is pretty reasonably priced. I'd just re-use the R9 270 for now, and grab a Vega GPU once they launch since the monitor I included has Freesync support. For storage, I'd personally get another 1TB or 2TB 7200RPM HDD, and spend the extra $60 for the 525GB MX300, but that's all up to you. For RAM, I'd probably get a 2x8GB 3000MHz kit for $110, but I included 32GB 3200MHz for you, just in case.

Sanctorum, the build looks great! The 1700X does look great for it's price point. What would you suggest would be a better PSU than the one I have?

What do you guys think of this monitor?

Samsung CFG70 Series 24-Inch

I personally think monitors over 24 inches are too big when used for gaming.

I'd stick with the AOC monitor since it's 1440p, that monitor is kind of meh IMO, but it's fine.

27" monitors are fine, there's not a huge difference in size, and for 1440p, 27" is the perfect size. For 1080p, anything larger than 24" looks horrible.

I'd wait for Vega so we can see power consumption benchmarks from reviewers, then you can get a nice EVGA G2/G3 unit(or something similar) with enough wattage for XFire support. I'm thinking an EVGA 750W or 850W G2/G3 should be fine for XFire support, but won't be sure until Vega is released obviously. So, I'd hold on the the 650G1 for now, and then once you upgrade GPU, get a new PSU at the same time, or soon after.

If you get a ryzen 7 get the 1700 has they all normally oc to 4 ghz and if your want to get the most out of it get a mobo and ram that will support close to 4000mhz as ryzen is suppose to support that ram with a bios update soon. Also ryzen 7 is dropping anywhere between $20-$50 I hear bc of theardripper
