Hi there, I'm doing my first build and I'd like to be around the $2000 range. I have setup two possible options and would like everyones input on a few items.

Build Goals:

1440p @ ~144Hz

NO case compromise

Relatively silent

Prefer chiclet keyboard & selected mouse

Potential questions:

RAM

       -speed vs. latency

       -more channels better?

Ryzen vs Intel cpu and mobo?

       - more threads?

       - Ryzen better in future?

Liquid vs Air cooling

       - Which is quieter/better temps?

       - GIANT heat spreader vs. rad?

1. Liquid vs Air, air is cooler no doubt

2. That looks like an awful way of spending stuff. First off you have a 120mm cooler H55 which is significantly louder than 240/360mm cooler

Secondly, Asus Turbo is a blower style card, it is also loud and hot. IT seems like you are going against silent build

Third, a fanless PSU is quiet but most Seasonic PSU are already silent even with fans and some can run fanless mode, save money too

Fourth that looks like a very cheap keyboard paired with a very expensive mouse. I would never buy a keyboard that's cheaper than a mouse

Fifth, 850 Evo is a bad value as they cost too much

Sixth, If you go with Ryzen look for 3000 Mhz and up memory modules, it has been shown to improve performance by few percent more

Eighth, both Intel Kaby Lake and Ryzen only supports maximum of 2 channels so basically a kit of 2 RAM or 4 RAM sticks is good but odd numbers like 1 and 3 won't work. The benefit of Single channel and Dual channel isn't huge but well it is prettier to have 2 RAM sticks in a build vs just 1.

Ninth, Get a 1080 Ti if you play extremely demanding games.

Tenth, Ryzen 7 would suit you better if you do streaming and gaming at the same time. An i7 7700k is what everyone should buy if they want to game only, i5 7600k will bottleneck a GTX 1080, in some case it could do to a 1070 which limits performance of the GPU (the GPU could potentially output more frames but the CPU is bit weak and hold it back, especially with a 144Hz monitor)

Eleventh, that's a very expensive case.

Finally, I will make a new list for you.

Of course your build walks all over mine, because you missed the point of the build I'm going for...anyone can choose to go all out on the cpu & gpu and then compromise on virtually every area to save money. Key areas I will not change are the 1440p 144hz monitor and the case. If I'm gonna drop 2k gaming, I'm gonna make damn sure I like the case and seeing the internals I spent so much on.

That Bitfenix psu has the ugliest 24 pin cable known to man xD If you are going for aesthetics then maybe look at a different unit or buy a 24 pin extension cable.

For the SSD don't bother with an M.2. Just go with the regular SATA version. An M.2 slot should be saved for an NVMe SSD if you ever buy one.

I would go with the SK Hynix - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/w6DzK8/sk-hynix-sl308-500gb-25-solid-state-drive-hfs500g32tnd-n1a2a

Wow. A bit defensive?  Did you even read what I posted for you? The monitor you chose was within the build I listed for you.

Well. At least I tried to help you. Not like you ever helped me with anything.

Glad to see more people recommending the 6700k; it doesn't suffer from the same thermal compound issues and is usually a steal at Micro Center too.

No need to recommend a Z270 motherboard, though.

The monitor you chose was 4k, not 1440p. Wasn't taking things personally, your suggestion just seemed to lack the preferences I had highlighted at the beginning.

Yeah, a SATA SSD is all fine and stuff but the m.2 one is just $5 more so I thought what the hell?

As for PSU, I changed it to Corsair 550W RMx: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3zNypg/corsair-power-supply-cp9020090na

And the cables don't bother me...I may just get a few from cable mod to make things look nice. I'm gonna see in from both sides anyway!
