Morning lads,

So with all the latest W10 updates taking their sweet time I though of doing a WSUS on our Workshop PC as I've used them before on 2008 R2 at my last job. My question for all the smart people in the audience is Can I run WSUS off a Windows 10 OS, The machine is mainly used for data recovery and we run a few VM's off it for sandboxing and such. Really don't feel like having to create a whole Server VM just to deploy WSUS.

reason for it is for our clients PC's when we are working on them as yesterday I lost half my day just waiting on updates. we are on Fiber but still any way I can speed it up the better.

So anyone know how and if this can be done ?

You need windows server for wsus. That's what your paying for in server. You can just install server 2016 on the system I'd you want and use windies server as the desktop os.

damn was hoping to avoid that, Server is just so overkill for what we are using it all for :( pretty much just want the WSUS. Might see if there is any other after market solution

looks like I'll have to go about it this way, and just kick up the VM when we need it. annoying as almost all the 3rd party programs are aggressive and for domains and more professional work environments where as we just want to have the updates sitting locally and push them to clients computers when they are in the workshop not 24/7.
