ryzen 5 1600x temps

so just yesterday i updated my old i5 3570 to a shinning and lovely new ryzen 5 1600x(MSI x370 pro carbon & 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 corsair vengance lpx, c16 though) and while all seemed fine and dandy, the cooler (an id-cooling SE 903, only thing that i could get that was compatible) wasnt behaving like i though it would.

DISCLAIMER: i'm no expert in third party cooling, always used stock cooling, mostly out of poorness and lazyness.

i was expecting temps between 30-40°C on idle and 50-60°C on load. What i got was 40-45 idle and a lovely 60 to 75°C on load.

also did some testing on prime95 and after not only the cpu got all the way to 75°C, the PC also restarted(which is always a bad sign imho)

so i would like some help to figure out: is the cooler crappy or is just mine crappy? or can it be because i installed it wrongly for some reason?(the cooler is hard as balls to install)

also what would be normal temps for a cooler like this on ryzen?

Thanks guys

the temps i posted up there are with ryzen master, hwmonitor throws 20°C more(though that was fixed)

If I'm not mistaken, Ryzen Master shows 20*C more than the real ones on the 1600X.

No. It's been fixed.

Check to make sure that your getting a good connection between the CPU and the heatsink, what kind of thermal paste did you use, and honestly the SE-902 looks like a tuned down version of the Hyper Evo 212 which isn't that great of a cooler. It could also be something else like GPu pushing hot air into your case and the case not pushing all that hot air out. Can you tell us about how your GPU is set up and the airflow through the case?

my case is a corsair 400c, and my gpu is a gigabyte radeon g1 gaming 480. the case fans are basically in the default configuration(120mm on the back, 140mm on the front, right in the middle), i used a generic thermal paste(cant get a good one here, but i've used this one before and it "works", not expecting great temps with that either)

before this my intel would have kinda the same temps but that was with a stock cooler, no heatpipes and stuff

Yeah the gigabyte radeon g1 gaming 480 is known to run hotter than most cards, and a lot of people have different issues with the fans and stuff.

that may be it, but i'm pretty sure the problem is with the cpu cooler, as it's not really as warm as it should be, to the touch.

The make of it reminds me of the hyper 212 evo, which for some reason is one of the most popular, but not efficient coolers out there. You may want to invest into a better cooler like Noctuna.

This one is pretty good priced at $60

This one is priced at $88 and is a MONSTER of a cooler, very big but your stuff will NOT run hot with this thing. Only a custom water loop after deli-dding will beat out this thing.

I have a 1600X and Hyper 212 Evo, and 75 C in Prime95 are my overclocked temps at 4.0 GHz (checked using Ryzen Master).

It never goes higher than 55 C at stock frequencies during torture tests and plays games in the 40s.

Check for contact with the cooler, make certain your thermal paste application creates an even coat, etc. all the usual stuff.

One other thing you can tinker with is the CPU fan curve if your BIOS or some software if your cooler/mobo allows for it. I'm just using the stock fan curve loaded in my BIOS though. Your setup might not be ramping the fan well.

Current Build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D

GPU: RTX 3080 Ti FE

RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z CL16 3200 MHz

Mobo: Asus Tuf X570 Plus Wifi

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X53

PSU: EVGA G6 Supernova 850

Case: NZXT S340 Elite

Current Laptop:

Model: Asus ROG Zephyrus G14

CPU: Ryzen 9 5900HS

GPU: RTX 3060

RAM: 16GB @3200 MHz

Old PC:

CPU: Intel i7 8700K @4.9 GHz/1.315v

RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z CL16 3200 MHz

Mobo: Asus Prime Z370-A

@RAM555789fun stuff: i cant get any cooler i want from newegg, i would if i could. I'm from argentina =P (lots of fun import fees, and lots of chances of it getting lost forever, also prices are 15x)

@Emberstone the included fan is 3 pin, and if i'm not wrong that means it'll always run at a certain speed (2000-2500)

right now i'm testing with ryzen master and cpu-z(which is less heavyweight than with no OC

also it just died again after reaching about 72º, gotta love the fact that the forum keeps what i typed here lol.

the chip is stupid hot and the cooler is barely warm, dunno why, it's like the cooler is not transferring heat at all

72 degress is hot, but it really shouldn't being dieing at those temps.

new data: disabled the OC on my ram(was runnnig at 2933, now it's at 2133) now it doesnt die at 70ish (right now prime95 is running and my temps are at 75ºC exactly, running with no problems) but still the temps feel too high for a non-stock cooler with heatpipes and stuff

Maybe your RAM was overheating. If you look around online there should be software that can measure it temperature, if the mobo supports it.

it seems like the whole idcooling brand has crappy coolers(there was a review for a different product that said "it's almost 20ºC higher than a stock cooler"). TBH i kinda cant believe that with a heatpipe cooler, but whatevs.

i guess i'll have to buy a new cooler, but the problem is the only things that i have available right now(that are ryzen compatible) are a deepcool gammaxx 200t and gammaxx 400(first time hearing of these coolers, at least there are some reviews of the 400, didnt check on the 200t) for cheap, and for a lot more(close to double the price) a TT frio silent 12/14(other than that there's Water cooling which i'm not really gonna do)

any thoughts? has anyone had any experience with deepcool?
