.

It's mainly because the features, for example, Z77 and Z87 support overclocking, H87 does not, and so on.

Here you can see the supported features

Z87 lets you overclock and has more features than H87, H87's are good if you want to use a intel i3

Z87.

Just kidding :D. IMO you shouldn't go for the Z77 chipset, it's old and getting the latest thing is always a bit better, some will tell me I'm wrong but yeah I don't really care, just giving my opinion. And getting an H87 chipset can also be good IMO, since they're cheap and some can OC CPUs, so yeah, do whatever suits you best and spend the money on something you really want, but like I said, don't go for the Z77 chipset, that's just my opinion :)

Yes, there is a big difference with each chipset, especially for Enthusiasts. A chipset that starts with Z means it can be overclocked. These are made for enthusiasts who want to tinker around with the CPU. This is the chipset I reccomend. Examples are Z87 and Z77. Chipsets that's start with H can't be overclocked. Examples are H87. This is meant more for Home PCs where you will never open the pc and the most stressful thing you will do is play Club Penguin. I would only get a H87 motherboard if I'm pairing it up with an i3, no more.

H87s are good for everything except the 4670k and the 4770k.

they only real difference is the oc-capability and 'Lake Tiny which provides increased SSD power optimization features when using Smart Response Technology (SSD Caching)'

I disagree, if you only need the basics, H81 is the way to go, it's cheaper then H87 and does pretty much do the same thing (especially on low-end PC's).

I disagree. H81 motherboards often lack features that H87 (or Z87) boards (not chipsets) have ;)

Also only two USB3.0 ports !?

why do so many people think that non-k processors are worthless.

a) most cpus sold are not k cpus

b)ocing does cpus doesn't magically make them 3 times faster ...

Not everyone needs 1051 USB 3.0 ports, USB 2.0 is often better because you don't have to deal with incompatibility what USB3.0 often still has.

And honestly most people don't even know what usb 3.0 is. I don't even have a single usb 3.0 device though my Surface has one usb 3.0 (my only 3.0 port)

USB 3.0 is only one of the points.

how about the 4 ram slots, the h81 motherboards are lacking (only 2) for future upgrades?

how about more than 4 sata connectors for more storage?

how about spdif most h81 boards are lacking

how about the onboard raid controller

....

You want to tell me, that all those features are only important to users with K-processors?

I am not saying that, but you are saying they are for people who buy a Pentium processor.

Well, comon .... That was mainly just a response to_ASSASSIN_ satement ...

But yes, even a pentium processor. A pentium cpu nowadays is basicaly an i3 without HT and Turbo Boost (and some other features).

I never said, that EVERYBODY who buys such a cpu NEEDS an H87 board, but rather listed features that might be interesting for some people.
