Will this motherboard even work with this CPU?

If you have chosen a 7600K you really should go with a Z270 board.

Hi everyone. I'm currently in the process of helping a friend choose parts for his PC build on PC Part Picker and when I put an i5 7600k and the Asus B150 pro gaming motherboard together I get this error:

"Some Intel B150 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Kaby Lake-S CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions"


I was just wondering if anyone more experienced than me could advise me on whether this motherboard would actually support the CPU or whether I should find a newer motherboard instead.

Well, it will work actually but after BIOS update only. I will suggest you get 6th generation processor unless your friend wants 7th Generation processor only. Or better, get Z270 board and pair 7600k.

CPU : Intel Core i5 7400 @ 3.00GHz

CPU Cooler : Stock Intel Cooler

I'd strongly recommend going with a Ryzen system.

Other than that, Z270 motherboards are what you want.

Z170 will work, but might need a BIOS update

B250 will work, but won't let you OC

B150 will work, but will need a BIOS update and won't let you OC

Sketchy, I'd go with Z270 instead. However, why not a 1600? It's a better choice, by far.

it's more cores. with hyperthreading. for the same cost.

better for gaming IMO because of the better minimums

flashing the BIOS is pretty difficult, I would get a B150+6700k or Z270+7700k

and without a 200 series board, there are very few boards that you can flash the bios to even support the 7600k since it wont even post.
