Laptop for College

I am looking for a laptop for college and I LOVE the Surface Book but I have heard of a ton of software and hardware issues that would ruin the experience. Are there any equivalent products that you would recommend? The stylus is very important because I love taking notes by hand, besides the organization part. I also like the GPU I want to be able to play simple games like Overwatch or be able to use Dolphin at high resolutions with Anti-Aliasing etc.

I'm not fully sure how well it would fit your gaming needs, but I'd probably go for the HP Spectre x360. You can see a good listing of 2-in-1 laptops on a recent TechRadar article.

Just get the surface, it's still a pretty solid device for what it is.  I definitely suggest getting the 970m model though.

Are there different performance bases? I thought they only had one version of the base.

While this is a great machine for the price, and would no doubt fit the gaming needs well, it does not have 2-in-1 capability. Additionally, I don't think it's available with a touchscreen. Size would make it less portable in comparison to the desired 2-in-1 form factor as well.

The first performance base essentially runs a 940mx (2gb?), and it is rather slow.  The newer one has a 970m 3gb that is equivalent to a 1050 ti, much better for gaming.

While it doesnt have 2in1, it is insane for gaming and for most of your workloads.

At the same time I think the cheapest configuration with it is 2399...

 

I want the one with the 965m so bad, but it's so expensive that I can't justify it :/

Writing on it is stressful, hinge design has high artistic value has negative practical value. You can't put things flat against it in a brief case. You're always worried whether you're going to break the bulge.

 

It's a duo core with a 965m at BEST. 

 

The one USP it has is detachable 2 in 1. For comparison, there is a new 2 in 1 with a quad core and 1050, Lenovo 720 that's far cheaper and better speced.
