I once posted a thread to choose between monitors and choose one but I noticed its out of stock so i thought i could ask this again.

So I'm on a budget and I'm building a PC to play at 1080p and I play Cs go but 144hz monitors are expensive and I don't even play competitively because I'm used to my laptop's 40 FPS

I like to play games like Assassin's creed that are kind of slow based and look good.

I don't know much about IPS panels or LED or whatever but I read a little but It's still not enough to help me decide.

Asus VC239H IPS panel 150 euros (downside it comes with a external power brick like the ones with laptops)

Benq rl2455HM 120 euros (Used because i couldn't find any new in stock)
I know that IPS look way better but if i do go with it will i be missing out when it comes to gaming ?

IPS panels can be LED. LED just means the backlight uses LEDs, IPS refers to specifically how the panel displays the colors, do you mean IPS or TN?

I wouldn't stick to one concept or the other. I would read reviews on the panels to see which is better overall.

But my main question is which monitor i should go for when it comes to gaming to be honest :P

You can't compare IPS and LED. It's like saying, "Should I get a big laptop or a plastic laptop?" They aren't comparable. It's comparing apples to oranges.

IPS refers to how the display ITSELF works in displaying colors and whatnot. LED refers to the backlight using LEDs. You can't compare them. You can have an IPS display that is also an LED display. You can have an IPS display that isn't an LED display. You can have an LED display that isn't IPS. You can have one that isn't both. Your question literally doesn't make sense.

does the 1ms and 5ms difference effect gaming on PC's that much ?
Because the benq monitor is designed for Console  gaming

Don't worry, we've all been there :).

It's kinda annoying when a lot of monitor companies use "LED display" in their marketing. If you wanted to be completely accurate, LED displays SHOULD refer to OLED/AMOLED displays, but companies decided to use them in their marketing...

The thing with these is it kinda depends from person to person. For me, I don't really see much of a difference. But you may be difference. If it's possible, it'd be best if you could somehow try out both monitors before making your decision.

Panel technologies are TN , VA , PLS , IPS

LED just means the back-light of the monitor uses LEDs as opposed to fluorescent light tubes (or CCFL tubes, think very thin neon like tubes on top and bottom of the monitor). There's also Quantum Dot, which is basically LED lightning with a sort of special filter material over the leds which makes the light produced by leds better than the regular light, so it's slightly better than led light but nothing revolutionary.

TN panels are very fast , often used in monitors that can do 120fps or higher, but they have poor color reproduction and if you look at the screen from the sides or from top or bottom, the colors get distorted.

VA panels have much better contrast than TN and can reproduce accurately more colors (the image doesn't look as washed out as you'd see with TN), the issue with colors distorting when you look from the sides is gone, but it takes more time to refresh the panel with a new image, so generally you don't see monitors showing more than 75-100 frames per second with such panels.

IPS  (and PLS - PLS is sort of something between VA and IPS) is slightly better than VA but it's hard to make panels that can do more than 60 fps with this technology.

Here's a place to get ya started on what the different panel types mean:

There's also a ton of other stuff you might want to look into, like response time, input lag, etc. Really a lot to know :P

Ok, I'm going to keep this very simple because you're obviously confused...

You have two options:

1) Buy an Asus VG248QE, it's a fast gaming TN panel that is about as affordable as you'll find for a good gaming monitor.

2) Head over to Blurbusters and look at their list of ULMB gaming monitors and find the best one you can afford that is at least 120hz.  If it doesn't have 120hz (or higher) and ULMB then you don't want to buy it.

Less Simple:

IPS monitors are nice, but unless you buy a "gaming" one that is 120hz+ then you're virtually guaranteed to get a lot of input lag, have a significant amount of motion blur, and you're going to have poor positional accuracy and jerky motion.  Unfortunately, gaming IPS monitors are still $700+ and especially for CSGO a 60hz monitor is completely unacceptable.  A fair number of people you see on servers complaining about "lag" and how on "their screen" they didn't miss... are playing on 60hz IPS monitors because they listened to people who didn't know any better when they said "60hz is good enough".  Don't be one of those people...

NOTE: if you buy the Asus VG248QE it was one of the pre-ULMB monitors that had "Lightboost" it's the same thing but you need to download a custom driver to make it work.  It isn't hard and if you need help I can probably locate it for you, but paying more for the PG248Q just to have it built in seems a little silly to me if you're on a budget.  Don't worry about it...
