What is GPU BIOS?

I've heard some people on these forums talking about GPU BIOS and how they updated it...

 

I thought only the motherboard has a BIOS. Are they talking about GPU drivers?

  • CPU = i7 5930k
  • Cooler = Corsair H100i
  • RAM = Dominator Platinum 32GB DDR4-2666
  • Storage = Samsung 850 Pro 1TB
  • GPU = EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW3
  • PSU = Corsair 750D
  • PSU = Corsair 1000W
  • Monitor = Asus PG278Q

Yes, one can "flash" a new BIOS on a GPU and remove those pesky unnecessary temperature, power and voltage limits if they're sure they know what they're doing to overclock them To Kingdom ComeTM .

I've flashed modded bios on to all my card minis the 1080's. Don't think the fe version has much to gain even if I could do it.
