How to get Dota2 to look good and playable..

G97
Go to solution Solved by Taja,

Turn everything off and try to get the best render quality possible for 30 fps minimuns.

I just got into playing Dota 2 and the gameplay is so-so at best. I am playing it on my laptop.

Compaq CQ40

Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit with SP2

Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2GHz

4GB(2×2)DDR2 800MHz RAM

500GB SATA 2 HDD

Intel 4500mhd graphics

I usually only get about 14FPS...

Get a new computer because that's crap (and vulnerable since Vista isn't supported anymore).

Well I swap between hard drives so I have one running Windows 10 Professional and this Windows Vista. I use Vista because it looks great and wanted to see why people hated it..I actually like using it (from 1 year of using it)

Vista was bad because there were driver issues pre SP1 and because Microsoft got greedy with the minimum specs and it ran like shit, but with a properly spec'd system it was fine.

Yeah..makes sense...

Though if Microsoft did things gradually it would have been a great OS..with that Aero effect and all..

Though while we're in the subject...they haven't increase the minimum system spec since then (2006)..maybe it is a good thing?

Need to get a job first...still in college :)

It is quite sad that technology advance so fast that computers become obsolete within a few years...

Hardware was up to par at the time Vista was released, they just wanted to improve compatibility, which cost them the reputation of the OS.

That computer is almost a decade old and it had an EXTREMELY weak GPU (and low end cpu) even for the time.

You could be sad about your hardware becoming obsolete... or you could be happy that it keeps getting cheaper, more powerful, and eventually, old people will actually understand it.

All the other settings are set low or off

Better play at 640X480 lowest settings, 40% render quality

Only way to let the game playable
