I have an Intel ssd of 120 GB, with the OS and other files.

I have 2 questions.

1.Is there a way to stop files from automatically installing in the SSD.

2. Can I add another SSD to the computer and increase the space with (not sure what its called: Raid or something like that)

Thanks

You can add another drive in RAID 0 which will mean your data is stretched over both drives meaning if one fails you lose all data. A better solution would just be to buy a HDD which will be slower but you can get many more GBs for your money.

Once you have a second drive you can choose to install programs and games etc to it instead of your SSD.

And how do I apply the raid 0?

I strongly suggest you just get a HDD and not another SSD. RAID is only needed if you want 240GB of SSD storage mad up of 2 SSDs, which I doubt you need. Just buy a 1TB (1000GB) HDD and have them as 2 separate drives.

Also, a LOT of controllers, when creating the RAID 0 array, will wipe all existing data to make a "new" array. Have to be VERY careful if you go that root. Like Jay says, add a mechanical drive.

Few other things you can then do, go to Computer, right-click, choose Properties. Go to Advanced System Settings, then got to Environment Variables. You can change the PATH value for TMP and TEMP to also be on your new mechanical drive. Will save some files being written to SSD. Can put your page file on the mechanical drive. Put your IE/Chrome/Firefox cache on mechanical drive. Few things you can do to free up the SSD....

You can let windows change the Documents/Pictures/Videos/Download/Music/etc... directories to directories on your HDD...

  1. Open an explorer (flag+E)
  2. Go to C:\Users\username (change username to your username, of course)
  3. Right click on My Documents, select properties
  4. Select the tab Location
  5. Enter a new location (or just change C with the letter of your hard drive)
  6. repeat for the other folders in C:\Users\username

This will make the links in your start menu etc. point to your HDD instead of your SSD

I will try this, thank you.

If you were to do RAID 0 you would need to completely wipe your current SSD.
