Ok, so I am having an issue with the personal Exchange server i have setup. So on start the server will send messages normally but after about an hour or so it will reduce the receive time to about a 2 hour delay. I have checked DNS, send and receive connectors enabled on all interfaces. This is virtualised in Hyper-V on a decent server. I have run the Test-Mailflow in Exchange Mang. Shell it works internally sending emails to local address on the domain. Outside mail doesn't work, not sure whats happening. Hope this isn't crap explanation..or something simple I am overlooking.

Most home internet connections are blocked from using port 25, check with your ISP if this is the case.

Also what resources did you give the VM? Exchange does some auto tuning based on hardware specs and it can be rather brutal if you are way below the recommended specs.

most likely, it's the first thing you should check, they do this so organizations have to switch to their business plan to avoid this problem, us prosumers are stuck with this problem every time

i never run it in a virtual machine, i have had too many problems with that, so many in fact that if i list them all, i would hit a word count on the forums, thats how many i have had

but i will list one: fails to register domain sometimes after a week of use, it happen again, and again, and again, and again

you get the jist..... i just gave up on it and switched to a physical machine

You a stronger person than me, I got tired of constantly coming home from a day spent in server rooms fixing servers to coming home to fix some more. No Thanks. just went to hosted exchange with 365 and now my life is way more relaxed and I've been taken off Neighborhood watch :P

thats fun for me, so long as it's a "every once in awhile" type of problem that can be fixed

if it's EVERY DAY, f**k that! no hell way will i do that!

also if thats for work, thats a potential security risk, i have been fired many times because if this exact reason, because their was a security risk that i didn't know about, didn't do anything about it, something bad happened and then got fired in the process...

if, say, 365 got hacked, your account is at risk of being accessed and confidential data could be leaked and used against the organization

never trust cloud services, always setup your own for the organization with secure tools and never use public services, EVER.

Check the logs. It will tell you why. At a guess I would say you are hitting timeouts and the whole queue is going into retry. Could also be a store resource issue.

If you want more help you will need to post some specs, Ram, CPU, HDD, OS, Exchange version, connection setup.

Host OS: Windows Server 2016

VM OS: Windows Server 2012 R2

Exchange Version: 2013

Fibre Connection 50/13

32GB Ram 1866

Intel 4690k

WD Red 2tb

The VM is assigned 8gb of ram and 4 cores. I have done a lot of research and still coming up empty handed.

Note: I am running all VMs in Hyper V, and I also checked with my ISP and port 25 is unblocked.

What do the exchange logs say?

Also what CU build of exchange.

Finally how much free harddrive space on each drive in the exchange VM?

26gb of free space, logs look normal for what I normally see with other servers.

build 847.32

That build is CU4. Update to CU16 correctly and then test again.

Also make sure all the windows updates are done as well.

Also please turn on verbose connector logging and check there.
