Alright so this xmas im getting my 1st build and my 1st gaming pc. But here is the problem:

Basically to put it all shortly and prevent walls of text:

I want to build it myself, my dad doesnt rlly want me to (as i also busted my laptop but thats another story),i feel kind of disappointed that i most likely wont build it myself, because i am super clunky and i watched Linus build a better PC vid but i only seemed to get the PSU and CPU part(i know im dumb).

I dont want to f up the whole build i really dont, so i think ill let my dads friend who was supposed to build it originally(he does this for a living). I will feel disappointed in myself but at least i can rest assured nothing will be fked up.

But then again lots of people have other relatives built PCs for them(even Levelcap has an Origin PC from....well Origin :P )

So what do you guys think?

Specs of my PC:

CPU: AMD FX 8350  Motherboard: Gigabyte 990XA UD3  GPU: Gigabyte GTX 770 Windforce 2GB  HDD: WD Green 2TB SSD:  Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD RAM: Corsair 8GB(2X4) PSU: CoolerMaster G650M

Ask dads friend to let you help in it. Also if your parents pay for it and not you put yourself in their place. They put hard earn cash into it and dont want it to wasted money even before the pc comes to life.

Better yet you could ask dads friend that you will build it a he will overseer it.

I really think you should study on building pc's a lot more (watch linus's + newegg videos 24/7) until you understand it better and build it yourself. When I built my first PC (my current one) I was nervous I'd f something up so I literally had a tutorial playing on my laptop as I built it, it helped a lot. Having a PC that you built yourself is awesome and makes you feel really good that you did it, not someone else. Just my 2 cents

Me: Yeah I just really can't get my H220 working again, I've tried everything that was suggested in the forum.

Brian (Swiftech Support): Hmm, have you tried slapping it?

It's really no the end of the world, :) at least you tried that's more than a lot of people do, and I'm sure your Dad's mate will show/help you understand how to do it yourself next time! xD

I agree, expect I didn't watch any videos while I was building it just watched like 30 different ones until I was like, yeah I got this xD

But I still think if a friend/his Dad's friend helps him understand/know how to do it, he'll be fine :)

Um tell your dad that you want to build it youself. it took me 3 mounths of research and now i know exacly how to build a pc. Watch linus "how to build a pc" or whateva.

i have experience when "Dads friends" build PCs. Terrible cable management and it looks like he wasted the PC and just throw it together. DO IT YERSELF"!!

I built my first PC when I was 14 with about a weekends worth of research, it seriously is lego for adults.

Consider this, if you do the build and something bad happens you'll be left with very disappointed parents and a broken pc. On the other hand, if you watch a professional assemble your system you will end up with a working pc. And as others have suggested, your dad's friend may even let you help with some of the assembly.

Well its really 3 way split when it comes to money beig put into it(me and my parents). I hope it doesnt go as @ViruZ_HUN said. :(. So-risk it myself or give it to him and HOPE that he will do it right?(but i mean he is my dads friend so i dont think he will fluke it off) Also I doubt he and I would work on it together on it, its either him or me and my dad(who isnt experiened in this either) hmmm.

Edit: im leaning towards my dads friend doing it. The way i see it, i can try to do the things thatll be done later on(upgrades) myself as that doesnt require me starting from scratch. Just 1-2parts at a time or something lik that. I dont want to put my, my parents money to waste. And its a really nice build (around 1400 euros)

Let your dad's friend build your PC that way there's a guarantee(ish) no mess up and ask if you could watch them build with a little teaching or you can ask if you could build and let them "help" you and explain on the way.

He will do right.

My friend just built his gaming PC. and Hah!. His Dads, Brother built it. THE CABLE MANAGEMENT WAS SO TERRIBLE, so i gone over to his house and recabled his build and now it looks better then before.

But if your dads friend is lovely, and nice and you can trust him, he mabye do some awsome management.

My first gaming PC which i could call "my own PC" was builded by a friend and the vable management was terrible. even if the case supported cablemanagement

I found myself in a similar situation as you when I first made my PC (except without the history of busting my electronics and the thinking I am dumb thing(but since you find yourself here you can't be that bad :))).

I fought like hell to be able to build my computer. Not bratty "I want it" but I actually spent time and effort researching parent accessible information that would help me drive my point. And now that I made it successfully and got everything sorted I think my parents actually respect me at some tiny level for it. I think it would be better for you to know how to do it than to let your dad's friend do it. And whatever your dad's friend says it is not as hard as it seems.

So what do you guys think?

Let your dad his friend help you out. I had my uncle who build PC a bunch help me with the very first PC. He explained me what to look out for. What is important to be carefull with, the basic things. Things changed a bunch, but in general it's still the same for building a PC now. You checked out the linus video a bunch and then you will see that it's not that hard. Make sure to not build on carpet, with pets around etc. Static is a thing, but what almost always is a good thing to do is grab the case on a metal part.

It's really not to complicated anymore now, thing's get much easier. I understand that for a first build it's scary to do alone and I would not recommend that if you are not 100% sure you understand what you are doing.

Good luck!

Why don't you build it together with your dad's friends? They could help you along the way and after that you'll be ready to do own builds in the future. It really isn't that hard, but if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, there's nothing to be ashamed about  :)
