Is it okay to run a rgb led strip into the pc from the outside to light up the insides?

Run the strip itself through a hole or just power?

My strip is powered by a 20V PSU and it gets pretty hot to the touch but it should be fine on your case

Through a hole and its powered by usb from the mobo usb port.

I'm doing that, I have it coming through an empty PCI slot from an empty USB port on the back. As long as the wires aren't stripped you're fine. LEDs don't get hot at all.

Have the insulation stripped of off them. Basically are the wires bare metal? If the are then it will cause a problem if not it will be fine.

Just what Wrb said. As long as they are plugged into USB you should be fine, doesn't matter if they are through a hole in the case.
