Is a 5.1 or 7.1 Headset Nescessary?

Do you guys feel that 5.1 or 7.1 headsets are worth it for gaming?
Some professional opinion of someone who has already tested all of them?

most are with virtual surround anyways and i never use it with my a40's cause its just annoying

Doesn't really do much, I never use it for gaming (A little if watching a movie sometimes).

Worth it for gaming?   Absolutely NOT.

For other things - yes.

Best uses:

- Airplane flights 

- Listen to music on noisy train going to school/work.

 

Example of when active noise cancellation has no benefit

- Gaming.

- Noisy Sisters.
