I'm still new-ish to the whole tower cooler thing. My current is a Cooler Master d92, and it's great, but I got it off craigslist and it's beginning to fall apart. One of the fan mounts is beginning to disintigrate and the other is probably on its way. One fan started making weird noise so I took it off and I've replaced the other entirely because the PWM cord ripped and I don't feel like fixing it.

I can get a 212 Plus on Amazon for about $20, but price isn't my concern. How easy is it to add custom fans to it? I want to add LED PWM fans.

have a 212x, it should be the same design but better fans/tiny bit better heatpipes and design

-

it's pretty easy, it should come with 4x mounting brackets (2x per fan)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

thanks. If I had a band saw I could mod the d92 and avoid buying a 212 altogether, but I don't.

It's extremely easy, it comes with another pair of mounting brackets (at least it came with an extra pair when I bought mine a couple of years ago), and I've yet to found a fan that can't be mounted easily

CPU : i7 8700k @5GHz, GPU : ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX, RAM : 2x8Go 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance, MB : ASUS Prime Z370-A, PSU : CM V850, Case :  NZXT S340, CPU Cooler : NZXT Kraken x62, Monitor : Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 1440p 165Hz, OS : Windows 10 Home 64 bits

You are better off spending a few bucks more and getting the Hyper 212 EVO instead.

The EVO improved the design of the cooler, most significantly the baseplate, and how the heatpipes made contact with the CPU surface.

The 212 PLUS had deep gaps in between each heatpipe, which was not a very good design.

Some other changes also helped improve the performance of the cooler a bit more as well.

As for fan mounting, both the 212 PLUS, 212 EVO, and the newest 212X, use standard 120 mm fans.

An additional fan bracket is also included, so push-pull is possible if wanted -- there a version of the 212X that have two fans already included.

How are the fan mounts disintegrating? They're hard plastic.

Can you post photos?

They are just old and falling apart from repeated disassembly. I cut holes with a knife to fit 80mm instead of 97mm to bypass this problem. I'll add pictures in a minute, wait to post until I do.

They shouldn't be breaking unless you're screwing the fans in too tightly.

Is your cooler under warranty? You can probably get a replacement brackets from Cooler Master.

Staff not reading the OP...that's new.

Regardless, they are pretty flimsy plastic, and the one in the pic was cracked when I got it. One of the fans was making that loud vibration noise, it just needed some grease.

I have some electrical tape on one of the mounts for now.

Oh, my bad--glossed over it.

You could still try contacting them. Considering that it's not included in their D92 kit on their site, it's probably the only way to get replacements without buying the same cooler.

Sorry but this item is currently unavailable.
Please check back at a later stage.

It's not even worth getting when I've pretty much fixed it myself. I get that most people want PCs that haven't been janked together, but most of my PCs are janked together in some fashion anyway (Molex to 6 pin stripped and soldered, etc).
