i am considering the 850 pro but with what ive read it the evo with an extended warranty and it last forever so it is a waste of money. right?

is there any other ssd with the same durability and speed for a lower price?

the mobo also supports nvme ssd also if there one that is worth a little bit extra

Both are fine.  Samsung has the RAPID filter driver through its Magician software that caches a fair bit in RAM resulting in better speed.  WD might have something similar.

I had the 850 with RAPID mode enabled and it quadrupled my write and read speed for my os drive

just looked at the wd blue ssd and it has the same write and read speed. It's about 20 us dollar cheaper

Write and read speeds don't matter much in real world performance

Sequential speeds don't matter. 4K read speeds are what most represent performance.

RAPID makes little to no difference. Same with Momentum Cache.

No it didn't. All it does is fool benchmarks. Your RAM gets benchmarked instead of your drive. That's why pretty much every RAPID benchmark is significantly different.

Huh...I've got an older Samsung SSD and I notice a large difference when RAPID is running.  Then again, my system is a bit older.  Maybe it doesn't matter as much now.

i know sequential speeds dont matter. thats why i sayed nah

btw rapid mode made difference to me when transferring large files cause it caches them (i know if the electricity is cut the will become corrupt)

it's just a cache, so it doesn't do that much for real world performance

see: seagate firecuda

IMHO get yourself:

- SK Hynix SL308

- Corsair Force LE

- 850 EVO/PRO

- OCZ VX500

- Crucial BX100 (if you can find one used etc)

go on pcpartpicker.com and find what you need... its not very detailed but it will definitely help with lower prices... ssd endurances are good enough already and by the time it runs out, there will either be new technology or much faster, more efficient and cheaper drives to buy again

the 850 evo is  a great drive. with the magician software it allows for over provisioning op . this allows for faster write speeds and much longer lifespan.. highly recommended.  im getting 542 read and 524 write speeds . ofcoarse I have my system overlocked by the cpu frequency bus  which speeds up entire system :)

Unless you are doing it a lot, it's not making a difference.  That's just not how cache works.  And no, a power outage won't corrupt the file.  It just gets removed from the RAM along with everything else.
