M.2. SATA SSDs?

So as many people know, there are M.2. SSDs that use the SATA interface to connect to the board. (Or AHCI, whatever it is). These run at SATA speeds. Why are these usually cheaper than their 2.5" counterparts. The MX300 525GB M.2. is $10 less than the SATA version.

It could easily be due to demand. I doubt there is huge demand for M2 SSDs that have all the disadvantages, but none of the advantages (speed).

they are probably cheaper because they don't have to make a enclosure for it

Could just be supply and demand. They usually arrive at the same price on release and sway as the market moves.

 

Personally, I'm happy to pay $10 for less cables in the system.

I would assume that's it. Probably a pretty small market for them, which could easily lead to a surplus.

 

I see where you're coming from, but I have spent far too much time custom painting SSD enclosures to make the jump now
