@jonny.lizotte If you can get a Ryzen 5 CPU for a similar price, it would definitely be a good idea. It is always worth getting the latest CPU architecture and motherboard chipset for future compatibility. AM3 didn't have support for windows 10 in a lot of cases, and AM3+ may not have support for future versions of windows; it is an antiquated platform.

There are pros and cons to Intel vs. AMD, but at the moment it seems Ryzen 5 CPUs are definitely the best balanced CPU choice in that price category. A corresponding B350 chipset and 8gb DDR4 RAM should work out at roughly the same price, and provide much better performance, as well as compatibility for future generations.

That said, FX CPUs still offer great price:performance - you can get them very cheap. So if you simply cannot make the step up to Ryzen you will get away with one for what you are trying to do, but just don't expect it to last you too long.

I don't think that will work on this board:Gigabyte GA-AB350M-HD3 AM4 AMD B350 2 Way CrossFire

No, it has a PCIE slot so it will work.

But the RX 570 is a lot better.
