Don't even consider an FX Chip, those chips are 5 years old now and shouldn't even be sold brand new anymore.

Depending on what you are really doing will matter. If you're on a budget that could change things compared to if you aren't.

*sigh* you just asked AMD or Intel.... Let the flame wars begin. Actually this thread will probably just be locked now.

Well AMD or Intel is my first real question

That shouldn't be.

Don't pick brand before CPU.

just pick the CPU that fits the best for you.

FX CPUs are shit, they're super old, and were pretty crap even when they launched AFAIK.

IMO you should go with a Ryzen 1600

I would suggest the Ryzen 5 1600.  That being said, Intel is good too.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

Wouldn't an Intel CPU perform better in games because of the better single threaded performance? Yeah, the R5 1600 is pretty good at multi-threaded tasks, and even matches lower end i5s on a single thread. But most results on the web seem to show Intel on top for gaming because of how dependent games are on single-thread performance.

Disclaimer: Never actually owned an Intel CPU

It currently has worse averages but better minimums and as time goes on games will support ryzen better and multithreaded cpus better.
