Motherboard Standoffs

Go to solution Solved by dany_boy,

Depends on the case you buy, some cases will have them either pre-installed or integrated into the mobo tray. For other cases you will have to install them. Their purpose is to raise the mobo from the tray so that nothing shorts out.

Cheers!

Hello, I will be building my very first PC very soon but there is something that confuses me. In some builds, I see people putting motherboard standoffs, sometimes I don't. It really confuses me if I need to use them or not and I don't even know their purpose. Can someone inform me about this?

Thanks

You MUST have standsoffs. The spider points on thr back of the MB will short out with the case of you don't have them. It can damage your components. Had a client do that before. No standoff.... please use them. They are there for proper grounding and for clearance to prevent shorts between MB and case.
