I'm thinking of doing a compact gaming build for when I have friends over/LAN party sort of stuff. What do you guys think of this?

Get a cheaper 1x8gb stick of RAM, don't get a reference 480, a stock cooler is fine (albeit noisy), and consider getting an ssd. Also the 250d is a pretty big case.

Looks good, but get an SSD and maybe a smaller case if you can. If you're transporting it all the time it will be a pain in the ass with something like that

It's large for an ITX case but it's still really small compared to mid towers, plus it's a hell of a lot lighter.

I got the 2x4 for the boost you get from dual channel. And any smaller case recommendations that'll work?

I'm not gonna be transporting it

A Node 202 or SG13B is ideal for LANs imo but that's totally your call

I hope you're not really paying near $300 for an 8GB RX 480

And yeah, I just copied part of this from a friend's old build and din't change the reference 480. Probably will switch it to a 580

Does anyone know any good 580 cards with blower style coolers? I heard those coolers were better for small cases

I personally really like the Node 202, I don't see any value in mITX unless I'm going ultra small.

Alrighty then

edit: Eh I don't much like the look of the node 202. The main reason i chose the 250D was aesthetics tbh, as it'll be sitting on top of my desk. Anyone know any good looking small mITX cases?

Get 16GB RAM if you can afford
There are a few cases that are smaller than the CM Elite 130 like Silverstone SG13B, Silverstone ML07/ML08, CM Elite 110 etc.

I'm gonna later. I wanna keep the budget to a minimum, and i'll probably get another 8gb RAM stick later.

And hm ok I'll have to check those out

edit: The CM Elite 110 won't fit my GPU, so i'll have to get something like the 130

I'd suggest you stick with using 2x4Gigs of RAM rather than a single 8Gig stick.

Or even better - check you current storage requirements. You may find that 250Gigs is actually enough - at least for now.

So, rather than getting 1 8Gig stick of RAM now and planning to add another later, get 2x8Gigs of RAM now and plan on adding a hard drive later.

You could also consider re-using a hard drive from an old desktop or laptop.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

There isn't enough of an advantage to dual channel RAM to warrant not being able to upgrade to 16gb, which is already kind of necessary.

Does anyone know if the i5-7500 will bottleneck a 1070? I selected a Zotac Mini 1070 for my build so I could have more power and have a smaller case.

It depends on the game. The bigger problem will be the frame minimums. You might consider waiting for mITX Ryzen boards (whenever they finally come out....) as a 1400 would help a lot with the minimums.

True. I looked for mITX AM4 mobos and couldn't find any. A ryzen 1500X or a 1400 would be a lot better, but alas, lack of motherboard options is still a thing, seeing as it's new

edit: Apparently there is an mITX AM4 mobo, but there's only one model, and it's made by biostar. Judging from the reviews, it blows ass. Not worth the money.
