So im almost finished building my pc. I just need to add gpu and plug the connector to the cpu.

The thing is i dont know which cables to use, my psu evga supernova 650g2 came with two cpu cables one which is very short but matches the port sonce it has two squares in the middle and two on bottom corners IMG_5759.thumb.JPG.37e174d85a8bcb160092166fe52b3831.JPG

and the normal long cable most people use which is 4x4. The thing is it doesnt seem like the 4x4 matches the shapes on the port

I have already connected this 4x4 cable to psu and tied it and it would be a pain if its not the right one to connect to the cpu. Even if its not the right cable i would like to know what this cable does since they both say cpu

PS. Maybe the shapes dont matter and i just connect it?

Both cables will work.

The shapes of the pins do not match, this is normal.

It should still fit in the connector.

The side with 4+4 is the side that goes into the motherboard.

Ok then, i guess ill just plug the pins so that both "snappy" mechanism things are on the same side

if the shape of the pegs (some square, and some U shaped) matches up, it's meant to go there. also, there's no other places a 4+4pin connector can go, so it *has* to be the cpu connector ;)

and the reason i dont say "if it fits", is because either bequiet or intel did something amazing with their manufacturing tolerances on this beauty:

If it fits and has the same number of pins,

It is designed to work

Some motherboards need 8 pin power for cpu and some need 4 (mine needs 8) (same as the gpu requires 2 of the 8 pins)

The connector you shown is designed so that it can be used in both situations, its a wonderful thing

the snappy mechanism is meant to "pair" up to a single 8-pin conenctor with the "snappy's" in the center, the "U" shaped pegs should then also be pointing the same direction.

So, which side do i face the 4+4 connectors?

Because thats what ill be connecting

the side where the snappy mechanism clicks over a catch on the mobo, and if both asus and evga got their tolerances correct, the only side it fits.
