I got it for a while now talking like what 4 years. Just download it and try it out its free.

I do recommend the slow colour change and not the fast one because with fast you really notice the shift.

Opinions are a bit divided some people hate the orange glow it gives I personally don't notice it unless I'm in a weird viewing angle but that's monitor depended I figure.

I use it. Good stuff. At first you won't like it, because everything looks orange, but after a week or so you'll be waiting for it to start in the evenings.
If default color temperature is too warm for you, you can simply rise it to higher levels. You'll still reduce blue color and whites are going to look decent enough.

yeah i had the fast change setting and it really can mess with games if ti happens while you are playing. major fps lag and whatnot.

i've used flux for several years. now i've moved to using sunsetscreen, and haven't looked back. but they're both software that reduce blue light, thus reducing eye strain. particularly helpful when the sun is down, but it could also be useful during the day if you prefer working with dim lights.

i also tried using windows 10's night light feature, but i didn't like it. mostly because i cannot turn it off with a hotkey and doesn't work when i wake up my pc

If you're using Windows 10 then i wouldn't recommend installing it since Windows 10 Creators Update has a feature similar to f.lux .

It is worth mentioning you need a supported GPU Driver. Intel and Nvidia have released driver updates but idk about AMD.
