Budget Build

If the 7500 is decent for todays workloads then I would be happy

That is the problem, it already is on the edge of not being enough, in fact Intel's next line up for the i5's will already feature hyper-threading so they are 4c/8t exactly due to the need for more threads nowadays.

If you really can not afford the r5 1600, you could either get this b250 motherboard and pair with the Pentium G4560 using stock cooler to save money and have sufficient raw power to use 90ish% of your rx480 potential saving money to get the i7 7700 locked afterwards or yes get the i5 7500 already it won't bottleneck the rx480 at all for now but already do keep in mind you might be itching to trade CPUs by next year.

So a while back I built a budget pc but quite badly. I had paired a A10 7850k with an rx480 which was a huge bottleneck.

I am going to sell the cpu, motherboard and ram (selling ram as it is ddr3) For roughly £200 (Buyers already lined up).

I have done some more research and have looked at a i5 7500, 2x4GB ddr4 ram and an Asus prime B250m-a motherboard (Allows upgrades in future).

Is this suitable for use with an RX480 4GB? I only have a budget of roughly £100 added onto the price I sell the other components for.

Yes, the RX480 will work with your motherboard - assuming you have a power supply that can support the power draw of the GPU.

The i5 7500 would do alright with the rx 480, no bottlenecks but quite frankly I feel you should go with the r5 1600 instead as this processor will have a larger life span than the i5 7500 delaying the need for upgrading in the long run, those extra 2 cores and a whole 6 more threads will really prove useful as applications are using more and more multi-threading nowadays which does include games.

The higher count of threads also assists a lot on minimum frame rates, making the gaming experience smoother.

From my country (As I am not in mainland UK) the prices for the r5 1600 are roughly £60 more expensive than the i5 and I really cant afford that. I dont think im too worried for future proof atm as I am going to do a whole load of saving in a few years time (After Uni) for a High end rig. If the 7500 is decent for todays workloads then I would be happy

ok thank you , I will look up some performance figures for the pentium and then see if i can use those savings to put aside for a newer upgrade later down the line.
