Shunt mod?

Go to solution Solved by RollinLower,

usually shunt mods are done to trick the GPU in thinking it is using less power than it actually is, so it can draw more from the PSU and potentially OC higher.

this doesn't mean that it actually uses less power though.

So I found this: http://www.overclock.net/t/1608437/tutorial-power-target-limit-hardware-mod-shunt-mod-for-titan-x-and-many-other-nvidia-gpus

People are reporting 10-30% lower TDP usage .... It's such a simple trick that it makes me wonder why doesn't Nvidia do something like that for us? Couldn't they just solder it together for us?

From what I see, it's a good thing and Nvidia is more than capable of doing few more solderings on that GPU.

So why aren't they doing it?

Are you trolling? The mod just tricks the power measurement to be lower than what it actually is.

Not trolling ... I found about that trick 20min ago and I'm still confused about that.

So if I understand that right .... it acctually gives wrong info to GPU, so GPU itself will draw more power and provide better OC?

this doesn't mean that it actually uses less power though.

Ah okay that makes much more sense now.
