Motherboard is running Gen 2 instead of Gen 3 (SOLVED)

Go to solution Solved by Cacao,

So here's the manual way of enabling it:

This is an Nvidia tool that does it automatically, but I'm not sure how well it works with the new cards.

Hello all,

I have a problem. I have a GTX 780 Lightning edition that is running in GEN 2. My motherboard is the asus rampage IV extreme. My processor is the i7 3930k. Any help or suggestions?

Thank you,

Brian

PCI-E Gens don't affect performance enough to care about. This may be due to something in the bios?

Screenshot from GPU-Z would be nice. Maybe you need a BIOS Update?

I also have a Rampage IV extreme, I needed to run a little tool to activate the PCI 3.0. It doesn't really affect performance but you might as well have it on, let me find it for you.

3930k is sandy bridge, so you can only get gen 2.

actually SB-E seems have gen3 capabilities but it you need tweaks to to turn it on

i hope it will work!

also my bios is up to date and in the bios gen 3 is checked for x4, x8, x16 :)

now it is just a matter of something else that i cant figure out :(

The automatic tool from nvidia works for me with my titan and rampage IV extreme, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. Just run as admin and reboot.
