A few months ago a built myself a desktop. that was a huge success. Now, I would like to build a laptop, and to do that i need to know where to find parts. for example if I search 'laptop motherboard 960m' on newegg, wanting a laptop motherboard with the gtx 970m, instead i get results of laptops with that spec in them. this is why i need help

Unless you're willing to gather spare parts for a particular model, the DIY laptop market is practically non-existent. Not to mention there's no ready supply of parts, making DIY laptop work potentially more expensive than buying prebuilt.

If you can find the parts, and your a skilled technician with electronics and stuff then yes you can build a laptop, otherwise no. Your more likely to kill yourself with a capacitor or something anyway, those things are dangerous.
