That won't work. The SATA cable is only for data. It won't power the drive to allow any transfer of data.

You mean you want to use a driver without powering it up? only using the SATA data connection? I am afraid that is not really possible, but I doubt there's any PSU without more than one driver power up, just plug everything on your OS driver and the two drivers you need to clone.

 

I think there are MOLEX to those sata drivers power connectors adapters should you need them.

i have a usb to sata cable i use with an old hdd as my "usb stick" could i use that

I mean, it costs you nothing but time to try it, worse case scenario nothing happens, best case it works.

Does your power supply have spare molex connectors? The large 4 pin connection. You could get a molex to SATA adapter very cheap. I am honestly surprised to hear you have a power supply with just ONE SATA connection.

i did not drop the psu when i got it and smashed the others at all.....
