Hi,

I bought a new laptop today with the processor 'intel dual-core celeron n3350' listed as 2.4GHz. However, when i go into the windows 10 system settings it says that my CPU speed is 1.10GHz. I'm not sure if this is a genuine issue with the laptop or there is something i'm not understanding.

Thanks.

its lovering the clock to save power

when you stress test for example with aida64 it will go back to the speed advertised

it automatically turns down its own speed to save on battery since you're not using the CPU much

do something cpu intensive, and watch it spike to 2.4ghz

also this little Tx button, click on it. :)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Celeron N3350 has a base clock of 1.1 Ghz

https://ark.intel.com/products/95598/Intel-Celeron-Processor-N3350-2M-Cache-up-to-2_4-GHz

It just shows the base clock

What's listed is Turbo clock. Turbo is enabled by default. It will reach that speed when needed (i.e in demanding tasks)

They list higher clock speed for marketing purpose

However what's listed in Windows settings is also not real time measurement. The real clock speed varies. You need 3rd party app to measure it like Hwinfo for example. Windows has built in Performance Monitor but isn't really accurate.

Sorry for all the questions, but how do i do i set the preference to max performance? Also, is it bad if i do this?

Thanks for all the help once again. I changed it from balanced to high performance, i am going to restart the laptop now as see if there is an improvement in fps. This will not overheat/cause any problems to the laptop will it?

Id leave it in balanced, high perfornace won't make it faster, only hottter with lower battery life. All it does is force it at its normal clock speed(which is 1.1 ghz). Yo don't have to reboot for these changes to come anyto affect.

That 2.4ghz is the peak burst, and won't be used for most workloads under standard uses. Only some instruction sets on one cpu will trigger that speed, and only for a limited period of time.

You laptop has a slow cpu, there is nothing you can do to make it faster.

there is nothing you can do other than getting a faster laptop, the cpu is already running at full potiental.
