Switch question

I just bought a 5 port Netgear network switch will I see any loss in transfer rates? If I do is there a hack or easy fix? For instance say I have 2 rigs connected but only one on will there be a loss and if both were active will I see data transfer say halved on the switch? Will be hooking it up this weekend to a cable modem which right not is giving me 200+ Mbps

Won't hurt a speed at all. Make sure you get a gigabit switch

Can you please list the model number of the switch?

 

If it's a Gigabit Switch, you'll see literally no change at all (which is good).

 

If it's a 10/100 Switch (Also known as "Fast Ethernet"), then your internet speeds will be limited to 100 Mbps download for any devices connected to the switch.

Where did you buy the switch? How long ago? Do you still have the box?

 

If you bought it recently and still have the box, just return it (depends on the retailer return policy).

Got it on Amazon and since this is my first build I saved all the boxes even this noob can do right

Amazon return policy is quite generous. Log into your account, check your order history, and initiate a return. You may or may not have to pay return shipping (usually Amazon covers the shipping though).
