I currently have a set of Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers

altec-lansing-BXR1221-Speaker-System.jpg

I would like to purchase a better audio experience and have read many posts on this forum that suggest a sound card is 100% not worth it. With that in mind I will be upgrading my speakers instead of purchasing a sound card. I am looking for a set with great bass (better than the bass on my current speakers at least) as well as balanced mids and trebles. I will be listening to lots of heavy music (rock, metal etc) as well as jazz and blues, and also playing video games like Battlefield.

I also would like to have a headphone port on the speakers if possible since my front panel audio is broken.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys  :)

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Get the Logitech z506 surround sound speakers, they're 5.1 and go on really good deals all the time.

logitech x-540

So which one of these Logitechs is better?

Also, I forgot to mention that I don't exactly have a ton of space on my desk, so I can't have a huge subwoofer or anything like that, preferably just a compact but still powerful-enough sub.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

do NOT get logitech if you want sound quality.but for bass is good. for music mainly you are better off with just 2 good bookshelf speakers. these 2.1,5.1 speakers just can`t compare in sound quality. so buy 2 used speakers.but if you still want 2.1 or whatever, buy Edifier

z506 has better sub, if you don't have much space just get some good 2ch speakers.

My current set has a subwoofer and fits fine on my desk, so I'd be happy with some speakers that are roughly the same size or maybe slightly larger

you have to understand that you won`t get a better sound experience from the ones you have. just move the sub unde the desk(more bass)

Look for used bookshelf speakers or studio monitors on eBay, and keep using your current subwoofer (put it under the desk like s3ns3 mentioned).

Save some money and get a decent pair of active studio monitors, they have to be active or else you end up having to buy a seperate amplifier that can take alot of space that an active speaker wouldnt. You can find them at a guitar shop or amazon at a good variaty. I personally recommend the KRK Rokit 5 speakers, I tried them out my self and I think they sound awesome for rock and metal, awesome bass and highs.

Save some money and go to a local store where they sell studio monitors and have a listen to them, find a pair you think sound cool to you and save your money towards buying em. Dont buy speakers online right away, experience the quality and sensation of sound the speakers delivers in real life before deciding which ones you want.

I already told you, look for some used bookshelf speakers on eBay.

I highly recommend you look into the Edifier R1600t's. I bought them a few months ago, and I'd do it again every time.

They're really great for every type of audio. Here's an unboxing and a quick review:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-mSeCkMdNs

They're bookshelf speaker, so they look really classy. But if you take the cloth protection of, they really look awesome.

another upside is that they're powered speakers, which means you just connect it with a 3.5 mm jack.

The audio quality is outstanding, and everyone who's heard them was very impressed.

Even a friend of mine (who is extremely cheap, he WON'T spend money) asked how much they are. He's now looking into getting a set for himself.

They are $70-$100, so for what you get, they're really well priced.

If you can't choose between a couple of options, get this! You won't regret it.

Here in the Netherlands they are. Not sure about the rest of the world. May I ask in what country you live.

Then I'll look into it for you.
